Lucifer - Not the Morning Star or Light Bearer But Our Adversary and Accuser

Prometheus Fountain at the Rockefeller Center
In Greek mythology, the original “torch-bearer” was Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the gods in order to give it to humanity. Fire was considered by ancients as being a tiny spark of the sun, which was considered to be the physical manifestation of deity (see Sun Worship). By bringing fire to mankind, Prometheus has therefore enabled humans to partake in “all things divine” and even allowed them to aspire to become gods themselves. For this reason, Prometheus is particularly revered in secret societies, as his myth is the ultimate representation of the philosophy and the goals of mystery schools: ascension towards divinity and immortality through man’s own means. There is another who has assumed the identity of a light bringer.

In Isaiah 14 there is a very deceptive translation that appears to be a deliberate attempt to confuse us with a counterfeit and direct our attention away from the true light bringer.

(12)  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
(13)  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
(14)  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
(15)  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

(Sound a little like the Satanist, Aleister Crowley’s motto? - “Do What Thou Wilt”)

The word “Lucifer” is Latin and means “light bringer” or “light bearer”. The actual Hebrew word being translated here, “Helel” or "Hêylêl", sounds similar to the names of the other 2 archangels who are considered his equals, Gabri–el , “valiant man of God” and Micha-el, “one who is like God” the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people (Dan 12:1) . “El” being the root here meaning “God” as in “El-ohim”, God in the plural sense or “Beth- el”, meaning house of God. Notice, however, that Helel does not actually contain God's name when spelled out in the Hebrew.

The word “helel” is derived from the root word, “halal”, meaning to praise, to shine, to make a show, to boast, to rage. Everywhere that Jerome translated the word “halal” it is translated more along these lines. Only here did he choose to translate “helel” as Lucifer. He clearly knew the meaning of the word and its root. Why here, did he choose to translate it as "Lucifer"?
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

“Helel” actually means, “bright one” or “shining one”, “to flash forth light” like lightening falling from heaven (Luke 10:18). Some translations even say, “day star” or “morning star”.

The Bible tells us that the being we call Satan (śâṭân - H7854) or the Devil (diabolos - G1228) is our Adversary, our False Accuser or Slanderer. He was cast to the earth and took a third of the angels with him after leading an unsuccessful rebellion against God.

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. (Rev 12:3-4)

We know that Satan himself, like a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour. (1Pet 5:8) He too has a certain degree of freedom, of course, to roam about the earth. He even has access to the throne of God where he accuses the brethren day and night. (Rev 12:10)

He also is the ruler of this world –

Jesus Himself, calls him that in John 12:31; John 14:30; and John 16:11. He said it 3 times, He must mean it.

John 12:31
(31)  Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
John 14:30
(30)  I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.
John 16:11
(11)  of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

When Jesus was fasting and being tempted in the wilderness by Satan himself, in Luke 4:5-8, when he showed Him all the kingdoms of this world in a moment of time and said the kingdoms of the world are delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it, he meant he has been given that dominion. And Christ didn’t correct him.

Let’s see what Paul has to say about him in his second letter to the church at Corinth –

(3)  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
(4)  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

He’s not just a ruler, he’s the god (little "g") of this world and he does transform himself into an angel of light.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (2Cor 11:13-14)

He was indeed a sight to behold (Eze 28:12-15) but the title of “morning star” has been reserved for Jesus Christ. (Rev 22:16; 2Pet 1:19) Jesus Christ is the bright and morning star and the light of the world, not Satan!

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)

Incidentally, Superman’s name on Krypton was Kal-el and his father’s name was Jor-el. Superman was developed along a Jewish Messiah paradigm by two Jewish men, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1932 and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938. Just a bit of trivia for you.

I realize I might not have grasped the totality of your blog, do to the old English in the Bible verses so please forgive me in asking the following question: Are you saying Christ was also Lucifer (not the devil but the misunderstood angel?) I understand that the word "Lucifer" is only mentioned once in the Bible, and it is a very vague interpretation. But the true meaning being "Light barer," "Morning Star," "Venus," which basically means "Women." Could you please help me understand all this? Thanks, J

Sorry but the fact that Lucifer is our enemy, doesn't change the fact that he is a very powerful and glorious fallen angel, and a light bearer. He is not THE light-bearer but he is definitely a light-bearer. Your thinking is very one-track. Lucifer was created as the most glorious angel, he has not lost his attributes. We need to be aware of how immensely powerful he is, and how he deceives humans with his beauty and promises of riches and power.

The minute you deny who Lucifer is, you become more vulnerable to failure because you are underestimating your adversary. There is nothing wrong with the translation in the Bible so stop trying to change it to suit your opinions. The Bible describes him as a morning star/ angel of light because he IS one. And Yahshua (Jesus) is THE Bright and Morning Star, THE Light of the World.

Lucifer is an english word transliterated from Latin in the Latin vulgate. KJV uses this translation because it was taken from the vulgate. Most translations don't use Lucifer because the translation being used is taken directly from the Hebrew and not the latin. The doctrine of Lucifer being the name of the Devil is because people don't know Morning star in latin simply means Lucifer. The Hebrews never called Satan Lucifer nor would we in english had it not been translated in such a way from Latin. Thus its highly unlikely this is Satans name. Whether before or after his fall.

I strive to be as the Bereans spoken of in Acts 17:10-11 receiving the word with all readiness of mind, and searching the scriptures daily, whether those things are so. Check up on me in your own bible. Should you find me in error please let me know immediately. We must prove all things (1Thes 5:21) and rightly divide the word of truth (2Tim 2:15) together lest we be deceived. (Matt 24:24)
